Story

The song, “From the Top of Everest,” begins with serene sounds of water droplets and chimes, setting a peaceful scene overlooking Mount Everest. The haunting hum of meditating monks and the melody of the Sherpa’s ethnic string instrument, the damyang, add to the spiritual atmosphere.

As the sun rises, the song introduces a Daphne bird, native to Nepal, flying above the terrain, revealing the song’s title. The mythical yeti appears, singing about the world’s struggles and the interconnectedness of all creatures. The song then shifts to a poignant scene of a mother whale and her baby, highlighting the harsh realities of survival and human impact on nature.

The lyrics emphasize the shared struggle for survival and the pain inflicted on each other and the Earth. The song’s imagery includes a fisherman, a child, various animals, and environmental destruction, all illustrating the consequences of human actions.

The scene then moves to a majestic lion, initially shown in all its glory but soon revealed to be behind the strings of a guitar and then behind a cage, symbolizing the loss of freedom and the impact of human activities on wildlife. As the guitar solo starts emphatically, the focus shifts to an elephant in its natural habitat. The elephant’s tear drops into the ocean like an oil spill, causing the whale and her baby to flee frantically. This imagery highlights the interconnectedness of environmental issues and the suffering they cause.

The elephant, once free, is shown chained and abused, representing the cruelty inflicted on animals. The yeti’s perspective from Everest serves as a plea for compassion and awareness, urging listeners to recognize their role in preserving the planet.

The song concludes with the yeti in a meditative state, praying for the world and descending into the celestial infinite, leaving a powerful message of hope and responsibility. The lyrics reinforce the themes of survival, empathy, and the need to protect nature, making “From the Top of Everest” a moving and thought-provoking piece.

Lyrics

From the top of Everest
I look down at the world
From the top of Everest
I hear the cries unheard

Aren’t we all just trying to survive?
Aren’t we all just creatures in Her eyes?

and yet we hurt each other like
there’s somewhere else to go
and yet we hurt each other like
there’s no tomorrow
and yet we hurt each other like
there’s no turning back
and yet we hurt each other like
we’re under attack

From the top of Everest
I see the tears of the world
From the top of Everest
I feel the pain of the Earth

How can we forget how we’re alive?
Aren’t we all just nature in disguise?

and yet we hurt nature like
there’s somewhere else to go
and yet we hurt each other like
there’s no tomorrow
and yet we hurt nature like
there’s no turning back
and yet we hurt nature like
we’re under attack

From the top of Everest
I’m begging for the world
From the top of Everest
I’m praying for us all

From the top of Everest
From the top of Everest
From the top of Everest
From the top of Everest
