Story

“WANTED” tells the story of a person deeply in love, yet constantly feeling unappreciated and misunderstood by their partner. The man is portrayed as someone who is willing to give everything for love, but their efforts are met with indifference and criticism.

The relationship is marked by an imbalance, where the man’s partner holds onto past grievances and judges them harshly. Despite the man’s sincere attempts to connect and prove their love, they are met with emotional distance and a lack of reciprocation. This dynamic creates a sense of helplessness and frustration, as the man feels they can never truly win their partner’s affection.

Throughout the song, the man reflects on their sacrifices and the lengths they have gone to for their partner. They describe trying to bring the moon down for their partner, symbolizing their extreme devotion and willingness to do anything to make the relationship work. However, this grand gesture is met with ridicule, highlighting the partner’s lack of appreciation and empathy.

The chorus of the song emphasizes the man’s simple desire for love. They repeatedly state that they never wanted more than their partner’s love, but tragically, that love was never given. This refrain underscores the central theme of unrequited love and the emotional toll it takes on the man.
In the end, the man is left feeling used and unvalued, despite their best efforts to show their love. The song captures the pain and heartache of loving someone who doesn’t love you back, and the emotional resilience required to endure such a relationship.

Lyrics

I was the burden holding your love close to mine
You were uncertain of every word that I would rhyme
Seeking the answers inside your convoluted heart
Used and polluted I was guilty from the start

I never wanted more than your love
I never wanted more than your love
But your love never wanted me
But your love never wanted me

You held on to pictures of every crime that I’d commit
And you were the judge, the jury, the witness and the writ
The crime could be solved by the mirror on the wall
But you’d rather drown me and make sure that you don’t fall

I never wanted more than your love
I never wanted more than your love
But your love never wanted me
But your love never wanted me

The pages diverted to the ones that you have marked
And you closed your ears every time that the karmic dog would bark
Safe in your dream world where the passing clouds would pray
To your perfection and where I never have a say

I never wanted more than your love
I never wanted more than your love
But your love never wanted me
But your love never wanted me

You wanted the moon and so I flew to pull it down
When I returned I was just your silly clown
Laughed at and broken, at the mercy of your smile
Dancing alone at the center of the aisle

I never wanted more than your love
I never wanted more than your love
But your love never wanted me
But your love never wanted me
